Ingredient and flavor process automation

Cultures, flavors, seasonings, proteins, yeast and specialty ingredients: products whose value depends on getting a formulation and a process profile exactly right, every time.

Where control matters

  • Fermentation. Media preparation, sterilization, inoculation, and control of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and feeds through each batch.
  • Separation and concentration. Centrifuges, filtration, membranes and evaporators.
  • Drying. Spray dryers and freeze dryers run long, recipe-specific profiles. A freeze-dry cycle can run for many hours, and a deviation late in the cycle can cost the whole load, so profile control and alarm handling are critical.
  • Extraction and reaction. Temperature, pressure and time profiles for flavor development and extraction.
  • Blending and formulation. Weighing and dosing to formulation, with ingredient lot capture at every addition.
  • Utilities. Clean steam, purified water, vacuum and refrigeration supporting the process.

Why a DCS fits ingredient producers

Ingredient plants are the clearest case for recipe-driven control. Customers specify the product, the formulation is the intellectual property, and the batch record is key quality evidence. Formulation management keeps recipes controlled and versioned. Batch control runs them consistently across vessels and dryers. Complete lot genealogy requires configured material and transfer records, capture of manual additions and rework, and integration with packaging and business systems where those records originate. Design points we pay attention to

  • Sterile-boundary and SIP sequencing for fermentation. CIP & SIP →
  • Combustible dust in drying and powder handling. Electrical equipment and enclosures are specified for the hazard assessment your site has made.
  • Allergen segregation and changeover verification across shared equipment.
  • Protecting formulation data: access control and audit trails on recipe changes.

Bring the log book. We'll tell you what fits.

Show a Freelance engineer how your batches are run and recorded today: a new process, a line expansion or a control-system migration. We'll tell you plainly whether a DCS, a PLC or something in between is the right next step.
