Process controls, designed and built

Because Gross Automation is best known as a distributor, our engineers are often thought of as the people who size a drive or cross-reference a part. They do that too, but our engineering team works on control-system projects full time, and much of what they design ends up inside products that our customers sell to their own customers.

Start from wherever you are

  • A running plant. Processes that work but are hard to change, record or expand. We look at how batches are run and recorded today, log books included.
  • A machine you already have. Equipment bought or built that now needs controls, or needs to work with the rest of the plant. Getting machines to work together →
  • Just an idea. A process you want to run, or a product you want to build. We can take it from a description to a designed and built control system.

What our engineering team does on a project

  1. Scope. What the process has to do, what has to be recorded, and what control architecture fits: a PLC, a compact DCS such as Freelance, or a combination. How to decide →
  2. Design. The control system, its operator screens and its documentation, written so your team can understand it.
  3. Panel build. Control panels are built in our UL 508A industrial control panel shop in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The panel shop →
  4. Testing. The system is tested against the agreed design before it leaves our facility.
  5. Hand-over and support. What follows delivery (start-up assistance, training and ongoing support) is agreed for each project.

Who we build for

Processors who run the system themselves, in food, beverage, medical device and pharmaceutical plants. Industries →

Equipment builders whose machines and skids carry controls we design and build, and whose own customers run them. Controls for OEM skids →

Engineering, a panel shop and supply under one roof. The same company designs the system, builds its panels and supplies its components through GrossAutomation.com, so you work with one company for the design, the panels and the parts.

Bring the log book. We'll tell you what fits.

Show a Freelance engineer how your batches are run and recorded today: a new process, a line expansion or a control-system migration. We'll tell you plainly whether a DCS, a PLC or something in between is the right next step.
